Seems to me any move to cut gasoline consumption is self-defeating. We lower consumption & the Arabs just raise prices to compensate. And we’re still totally dependent on oil.
Equip all new cars for bio-fuels (at a cost of about $100 per car) & we let the free market guide us into new fuels, regardless of the price of gasoline. Since about 15% of cars are replaced each year, 60% could run on any kind of bio-fuel by year four. We’d be out of the woods & the Arabs, competing with other fuel sources, would be forced by the free market to price competitively.
