What is the current rate of BC carbon tax? Call me a cynic, but I just see this as a backward way of generating new revenue streams.

Did voters really support the tax by electing the conservatives for the 3rd straight term, or was the election more about the lesser of 2 evils. The NDP wasn't elected because people didn't agree with their platform not because they opposed the carbon tax. The tax can't really encourage public transit when there are lots of places that don't have public transit in BC. The tax also shouldn't be put on any fuel required for heating homes, when most of the province has harsher winters than the lower mainland. Maybe the tax on heating fuels might be acceptable if the whole province reached -10 in the winter, once or twice every decade, but not when most of the province reaches -40 in the winter every couple years.

I agree with Shelly: This news is great. The best part of it is that it drives a white ash stake through the heart of the foul fiend that proclaims suicide for whosoever champions the Carbon Tax in an election.

True, the election took place in Canada, not the US, but I know of several Canadian-American pairings which produced viable offspring; our species are closely related.

Just as the accumulating scientific evidence makes plainer every day that Global Warming is taking place and that anthropogenic emissions are the lead driver, accumulating socio-economic and political evidence makes plainer every day that the Carbon Tax should be the lead driver along the road to climate stability.

The time has come to focus on implementation. As Hillel would say, "The rest is commentary."

This is great news! I tweeted this on Twitter to get the word out. Good for Canada,-- now if only the U.S. could do something like this instead of the "murk".
